About Michelin
Brothers André and Édouard Michelin founded the company in Clermont-Ferrand, France, in 1889. In 1891 they patented a detachable pneumatic bicycle tyre that could be repaired in minutes, and in 1946 Michelin patented the radial tyre, the construction almost every car tyre uses today. The Bibendum mascot dates from 1898 and the Michelin Guide from 1900. The group also owns BFGoodrich and Kleber, and it remains independent and listed in Paris, with research centres in France, the United States and Asia.
Strengths
- Longest tread life of any major brand in UAE use, often 50,000–60,000 km on sedans
- Grip stays consistent as the tyre wears, not only when new
- Quiet, well-damped ride on concrete highways like E11 and E311
- Strong heat resistance on long summer runs between Dubai and Abu Dhabi
- Wide stock in UAE across sedan, SUV and 4x4 sizes
Weaknesses
- Highest upfront price among mainstream brands
- Sidewalls on Primacy models are softer and can bulge after hard kerb hits
- Some 20–22 inch SUV sizes need 1–3 days to order

Performance
Michelin tyres brake short and stay predictable rather than feeling sharp. On a wet Sheikh Zayed Road after a winter shower, the Primacy 4+ and Pilot Sport 5 keep strong grip even at half tread depth, which is where many cheaper tyres fall away. Steering is light and accurate, and road noise on grooved concrete is low. The trade-off is that sporty drivers may find the Primacy range a little soft in fast corners; they should choose the Pilot Sport line instead.
Durability and tread life
Michelin uses harder-wearing compounds than most rivals, so tread depth drops slowly. In UAE use a Primacy 4+ on a Camry or Accord commonly reaches 50,000–60,000 km, and an LTX Trail on a Land Cruiser 45,000–55,000 km, assuming rotation every 10,000 km and correct pressure. In practice heat ageing, not tread, often ends a Michelin's life here: at around 5 years from the DOT date the rubber should be replaced even if 3–4 mm of tread remains.
Michelin in UAE conditions
Michelin stock in the UAE is mostly made in France, Spain, Thailand and China, and all factories follow the same specification. Ask for the DOT code before fitting: a tyre stamped 1525 (week 15 of 2025) is fine, but anything over 2 years old should be refused or discounted. For desert trips, the LTX Trail tolerates airing down to 15–18 psi better than road-focused Primacy tyres; re-inflate to the door-placard pressure, usually 32–35 psi, before returning to tarmac.
